Welcome Home

Groves, Texas wasn’t always Groves. It actually began in 1886 as a large homesite and many years later became the Griffing Brothers Nursery. In 1921, Port Arthur Land Development Company took control of the site and divided it into residential areas called “Pecan Grove”. Later the name was changed to “Groves” after development representative and poineer, Asa Groves.

The area rapidly began developing when it became a stop on the Kansas City Southern Railway. In 1936, The Atlantic Refinery began operating in town. The area grew fast due to the petrochemical industry and in 1952, the town was incorporated as a city. In 2000, it was the 4th largest city in Jefferson county, just after Beaumont, Port Arthur and Nederland.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Groves is its tight-knit and friendly community. Residents take pride in their city and actively participate in community events and activities. The city hosts numerous local festivals and gatherings, fostering a sense of togetherness that is truly heartwarming. Some of the exciting activities at the festival are th cooking with pecans contest, pecan pageant, treasure hunt and cornhole tournament.

Groves offers excellent educational opportunities, with a well-regarded school district. The Port Neches-Groves Independent School District provides quality education to the city’s youth, preparing them for bright futures. PNG is home of the Indians and the community’s spirit is so strong it is said they “bleed” purple and white.  In addition, there are local libraries and community centers that provide resources for continued learning and personal growth.

Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy family dinner or a night out with friends, Groves has you covered. The local economy is diverse and contributes to the overall stability and growth of the community. Not only is it close to Port Arthur, but it is also only 11 miles southeast of Beaumont with 3 state highways – 73, 87, and 347 passing through or near the city.

Groves is surrounded by the natural beauty of Southeast Texas. The nearby Sabine Lake, Sabine Pass, and Gulf of Mexico offer recreational opportunities like fishing, boating, and bird-watching. The city’s pleasant climate allows residents to enjoy the outdoors year-round.
